Manchester United fans divided over Wayne Rooney’s display against Aston Villa

Manchester United fans had mixed reviews for Wayne Rooney’s performance in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa on Saturday.

Rooney was making his first start for Man United since February having recently returned from a lengthy injury lay-off.

The Man United captain started the move that led to Marcus Rashford’s winner as he sprayed a long-range pass to Antonio Valencia but supporters weren’t totally convinced by Rooney’s display:

In Rooney’s defence, he was out for a long period of time and it will take time for him to get fully up to speed.

Rashford has impressed in the first team in Rooney’s absence but the 30-year-old’s experience and knowhow is unparalleled in the squad and Louis van Gaal will be glad to have him back ahead of the run-in.

United take on Crystal Palace on Wednesday before a semi-final clash against Everton in the FA Cup at the weekend.
