Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has said he would like to see Manchester United’s David de Gea join him at the Bernabeu.
Madrid made no secret of their desire to sign De Gea in the summer but a move on the final day of the Spanish transfer window collapsed due to late paperwork.
De Gea later signed a new deal at Man United and he has enjoyed a spectacular campaign this season. When asked about the keeper, Ramos claimed Madrid should always sign the “best” players and that De Gea is one of them.
“To speak about players who are not here would be a lack of respect for my teammates,” Ramos said.
“I have always said the best players sign with Real Madrid, for me De Gea is one of the best. But speaking of players who are not here would be disrespectful towards Keylor, [Kiko] Casilla and Ruben [Yanez].”
The apparent ease in which United convinced De Gea to sign a new contract at the club led to rumours that a clause was inserted to ensure he could join Madrid at the end of the season.
However, Keylor Navas has been in superb form for Madrid and there is an argument that they don’t need De Gea at all.
