Louis van Gaal refuses to look past this season with Man United

Louis van Gaal has no intention of looking further ahead than the end of this season with Manchester United and refused to discuss it any further with the press.

Man United’s dramatic 2-1 win over Everton at Wembley secured their place in the FA Cup final and gives us our best opportunity to win the competition since 2004, as well as a small reprieve for the under pressure van Gaal.

It is widely expected that the Dutchman will leave United this summer despite having one more year left on his contract but he is not willing to discuss anything to do with that outside of United’s boardroom.

When questioned about how victory over Everton can build hope towards next season, van Gaal said: “I’m not looking beyond” this season.”

But he refused to discuss it in any detail: “We live in the present and for the future I will discuss that with my board and not with you.”

I still consider it an inevitability van Gaal is going to be replaced at the end of this season and that doesn’t change if we win the FA Cup but it would be brilliant to having not won it since 2004.

One concern I do have is that if United win the FA Cup and somehow squeeze into the top four, will there be some sort of justification to keep van Gaal until the end of his contract next year?

Concentrating on the present, United’s win over Everton was arguably the highlight of the season and heading into next weekend, a tough game against Leicester City could make or break our top four hopes.
