Keith Groeneveld has been enjoying himself this week during his trial at Manchester United and got on the score-sheet for the first time in a friendly against Burnley.
Man United swept Burnley aside in an 8-0 victory and Groeneveld grabbed one himself which he’s certainly happy with and why wouldn’t he be? After all, he’s a centre-back and defenders don’t score all too often.

The South African born 16-year-old will be with United for the rest of this week before returning to his club KV Mechelen. So far, it sounds like he’s having a good time in Manchester and a goal certainly helps doesn’t it?
While Groeneveld may be nervous and keen to impress, this is not the first time Groeneveld has been at United either. He was here three ago aged just 13 as well.

After his trial, we’ll have to wait and see whether Groeneveld is offered a place in United’s academy but whether or not he does come, there will be plenty of new arrivals this summer.
Nicky Butt has made it clear that a big round of recruitment is necessary for the academy to improve their numbers and the likes of Dutch midfielder Tahith Chong are also expected to arrive. It’s an exciting time for United’s academy right now with all the players breaking through into the first-team and Butt heading up a team geared towards improving the academy from the bottom up.
