The Dutchman’s future has come under heavy speculation this campaign with Mourinho widely expected to take over at Old Trafford next campaign.
Mourinho has emerged as the leading candidate to take over at Man United following his sacking at Chelsea back in December. When asked about the Portuguese bosses potential arrival, Mata insisted it wasn’t the right time to talk about a new manager.
Speaking to Marca, quotes via Sport Witness, Mata said: “I’m not being influenced by the news. Not about that or anything. The press say a lot of things. I prefer to focus on the present, which is what can change my future, and that is trying to win the FA Cup and be in the Champions League next season.”
Mata has been essential for Man United this season but he could be re-united with the manager who deemed him as surplus to requirements and planned his exit away from Chelsea in 2014. What a turn up for the books that would be and it would place questions over his future at United.
Louis van Gaal‘s side have managed to reach the FA Cup final and are still in the hunt for a top four finish in the Premier League but performances have been extremely disappointing this campaign.
As for Mourinho, he has won trophies at every single club he’s managed and there’s no doubt he could help Man United back to their winning ways but whether that happens this summer remains to be seen.
