It was good to see Andreas Pereira, so often the forgotten man at Manchester United, meet club legend Eric Cantona after the 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Sunday.
Pereira has been out in the cold at Man United having seemingly failed to win over Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.
There have been reports that van Gaal has been unimpressed by Pereira’s ‘showboating’ for United’s U21 side. Rumours have suggested that him and Adnan Januzaj have been coming up with creative ways to try and humiliate the opposition.
Pereira’s struggles this season have been a shame, as he is widely considered to be one of the brightest young talents at Man United. The Brazilian has impressed for their U23 side recently and he scored an excellent solo goal in the U20 World Cup final last year. Pereira met up with Cantona at Old Trafford:
In a season in which the likes of Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson have all made the step up to first team affairs, it has been surprising to see Pereira’s opportunities limited.
The likes of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have proven to be dangerous tools for United over the course of the campaign but it has been disappointing to see Pereira not given so much as a two or three game extended run in the team.
It appears that he, along with Januzaj, needs to fix his attitude heading into the next campaign and beyond. You can have all the talent in the world but you aren’t going to make it at a club like United if you don’t apply yourself in the proper way.
