David de Gea believes that this season at Manchester United has been his best on a personal level.
De Gea has been in superb form over the course of the campaign, putting in several match-winning performances for Louis van Gaal’s side.
The Spaniard saved a penalty in Man United’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Everton last month and he is now looking forward to playing in the final. De Gea agreed when asked if this season had been his best in terms of individual displays.
“This is probably my best season in Manchester but now we have some important games. We have something to win at Wembley,” he said.
De Gea picked up the fans’ Player of the Year award for the third year running this week, which tells you everything you need to know about just how important he is to the side.
United’s troubles have been well documented this season but the form of De Gea means there is always a sense that van Gaal’s side can get a positive result from a game.
The keeper was close to a move to Real Madrid last year but a deal collapsed due to late paperwork and United will be thankful that it did. The hope now is that the club can convince him to remain at Old Trafford in the coming years.
