Paul Scholes: Man United need to change their manager or play style next season

by Tanveer Arayan

Paul Scholes claims Manchester United must change their play style or manager next season to avoid falling further behind other teams.

Juan Mata scored the only goal of game in the 72nd minute against Norwich City and helped United increase the pressure on Manchester City as they play against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.

The Dutchman’s future at Old Trafford has come under heavy speculation with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho widely expected to take over this summer.

Talking about the club’s Champions League ambitions, Scholes admits United are relying on Arsenal to beat Man City.

“I think United may even fall further behind next year with the likes of Liverpool, Guardiola at City, Chelsea, they’ll all improve.” he said.

“They need to change the way they play or change the manager.

“We still have a great chance [of a top four finish] but it probably depends on the big game tomorrow – if Arsenal could do us a favour, that would be great.”

As Scholes rightly says, Man United must change their manager and play style next season, van Gaal’s tactics were questionable against Norwich and could have cost have our top four hopes.

The game was possibly one of United’s worst performances of the season, but they did manage to pick up a vital three points over Norwich thanks to Mata’s second-half strike.

With a tough fixture against West Ham in the Premier League next week, United will need to do much better as a similar performance will not be enough to scrape a win against Slaven Bilic’s side.
