Teddy Sheringham believes Louis van Gaal should be sacked if Manchester United fail to reach top four this season.
The Dutchman’s side are currently one point away from the Premier League top four after they claimed all three points in a 1-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday.
Man United are set to finish the season with their lowest ever Premier League goals tally, having scored just 44 league goals since the beginning of the campaign.
He insists the current crop of players no longer have the ‘scare factor’ to frighten opponents.
“They are not really playing with the flamboyance of a Manchester United team,” he said.
“They don’t have that scare factor. Manchester United are not walking into town and saying: “We are coming to rip you apart and you will do well to hang on to us.
“It’s a type of thing where you can go to Old Trafford and get a result which is not the Manchester United feeling.
“Winning the FA Cup is not enough to keep his job. I know what it is like to lose a job. It needs to be better at Manchester United.”
As Sheringham says, we may end the season with an FA Cup trophy and a Champions League qualification spot but it’s hard to look past the boring football under van Gaal.
His slow style of football which prioritises possession goes against everything United have stood for down the years with flamboyant football.
Van Gaal has been excellent at handling young players at Man United, but there hasn’t been any real progress during his campaign at Old Trafford and for that reason I can’t see him in charge next season.
