Tony Martial scores again…and again…and again…and again.
Manchester United put themselves into a hole at Upton Park tonight so Anthony Martial picked up a shovel and single handedly dragged us out of it with two goals to turn the game completely on its head.
Unfortunately for the Frenchman, Man United’s other players really didn’t fancy winning the game so they decided to throw it away with some dreadful defending but the 20-year-old can walk away from the Boleyn Ground with his head held high because he was nothing short of magnificent.
Two goals from two shots and three successful dribbles are the stats which show how influential he was but it was just watching him where you see just how majestic he is in action, even in the face of adversity.
West Ham were rabid dogs on the pitch, biting at every ball and giving no United player any time or space on the ball but as the game opened up a little bit, Martial used it to his advantage.
His first goal was a case of being in the right place at the right time, a characteristic which shouldn’t be underestimated in its importance, and his second was just a piece of individual magic.
Martial has every right to be angry after the full time whistle tonight I think. He carried us on his back and pulled us back into the Champions League spots but we pettily threw it away like we were playing a game of pub football. It was atrocious.
But, staying on the positives, Martial is on a different level to his United teammates around him at the moment and while there is so much frustration to be had about this season, watching this boy grow into a star is certainly not one of them.
