Bayern Munich have released an official statement confirming the signing of Renato Sanches from SL Benfica.
The 18-year-old will join the German champions in a deal worth €35m and have snatched him from right under the noses of Manchester United.

Man United have been scouting Sanches all season long and watched him for more than 20 consecutive games but, out of nowhere, Bayern have swooped to take him to Germany. This is an extremely unexpected move which has surprised everyone, least not myself.
Benfica’s president was in Manchester only last week to discuss a payment schedule with Man United but he’s now on his way to Bayern and we’ve been left empty handed.
The biggest surprise of all here is that Bayern have managed to secure Sanches for only €35m despite the fact he’s got a release clause of €80m. That’s an extremely shrewd piece of business by them and United will clearly have to look elsewhere for a new young midfielder.
That was extremely unexpected. Although Sanches played against Bayern in their UEFA Champions League knockout game, they have not at all been linked with a move for him and all of this has happened behind the scenes and under the radar.
