Pictures: Sir Alex Ferguson meets Mauricio Pochettino in London

Jose Mourinho has been the main candidate linked with replacing Louis van Gaal but after pictures emerged Sir Alex Ferguson meeting Mauricio Pochettino today in London, speculation will link the Tottenham Hotspur boss once again.

Pochettino has already made it clear he intends to stay at Tottenham and wants to sign a new deal with the London club but having only agreed a verbal extension at the moment, nothing is set in stone.

Out of all the candidates, Pochettino is the person I’d love to replace van Gaal, far more than Mourinho. The work he has done at both Southampton and Tottenham has been excellent, especially this year by guiding Spurs to a second place finish behind the unstoppable Leicester City.

The Argentinian has brought through swarms of youth players at every club he’s managed and both on and off the pitch he’s built an excellent reputation.

However, I don’t really see why Spurs would even consider letting him go. With a new stadium on the way and arguably currently the best academy in England, Pochettino does have everything in place in London. That being said, United would certainly be a lure.

I don’t think Pochettino is going to leave Spurs but after meeting Sir Alex, I do expect the rumours to resurface until he either replaces van Gaal or signs a new contract.
