US sports executive Charlie Stillitano believes Jose Mourinho still doesn’t know where his next job in management will be.
The former Chelsea boss was sacked at Stamford Bridge in December and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United as the pressure mounts on Louis van Gaal after an abysmal campaign.
The Dutchman’s side suffered a 3-2 defeat to West Ham in a must-win game at the Boleyn Ground and are likely to finish outside of the Premier League’s top four, more importantly missing out on a qualification for next year’s Champions League.
Speaking about Mourinho’s future, Stillitano admitted he had been in contact with the Portuguese manager and that he doesn’t think he knows where he’ll end up.
“I talk to Jose Mourinho a lot and I have no idea where he’s going. I don’t think even he has any idea,” he said.
Despite being continuously linked with a move to Old Trafford, it still appears his judgement may still be clouded following Stillitano’s comments.
Our loss to West Ham leaves Manchester City in the prime position to finish fourth ahead of us and although an FA Cup trophy is still achievable against Crystal Palace in the final, it should not be enough to save van Gaal’s job.
With the end of the campaign approaching, United will have to make a decision very soon in regards to appointing a new manager. Fans have made it clear they don’t want the Dutchman to fulfil the final year on his contract at Old Trafford and with Mourinho waiting in the wings we’d be mental to let him join another club.
