Espanyol hold talks with Manchester United’s Valdes – report

by Tanveer Arayan

Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has held talks with Espanyol ahead of a summer move, according to Goal.

Valdes has suffered a nightmare spell at Man United, during which he has been banished from first team affairs by Louis van Gaal following the Spaniard’s apparent refusal to play for the club’s U21 side.

Espanyol spoke with Valdes in autumn of last year but a move never materialised. The Spanish club are now back in for the former Barcelona man and talks are commencing.

However, Valdes remains open about the possibility of staying in the Premier League despite his experience at United.

Van Gaal completely ostracised Valdes from the first team at United, with the veteran reportedly denied a dressing room locker and forbidden from interacting with the squad.

Valdes, widely regarded to be one of the biggest talents of his generation, has enjoyed a sparkling career at the highest level and it was a shame to see him fade away into obscurity, although he enjoyed a successful short-term loan at Standard Liege earlier this term. Hopefully Espanyol offer him the chance to revive his career before retiring on a high note.
