Manchester United players left Old Trafford two hours after a suspicious package was found and forced officials into abandoning their Premier League fixture against Bournemouth.
A controlled explosion was carried out by a bomb squad unit after a suspicious device was found in the North West quadrant of the Stretford End.
Fans were evacuated from the ground just 15 minutes before the scheduled kick-off at 3pm and a ‘code red’ was called around the ground as fans were told they must leave their seats.
Supporters were told to leave from the Stretford End and after waiting in the dressing room, the players have now left Old Trafford.
The stewards and staff deserve plenty of praise for their professionalism. It was a big call to abandon the game today but certainly the right call.
A senior police officer has said the team would be required to search the entire ground to ensure there aren’t any more suspicious objects inside the ground and it could take a few more hours.
