Manchester United have failed to qualify for the 2016/17 UEFA Champions League following City’s 1-1 draw with Swansea.
That point from City means Man United need to beat Bournemouth and do so by a margin of 18 goals. While at this stage it is still mathematically possible to finish in the top four, we won’t be facetious and suggest there is even the remote possibility of it happening.
United’s collapse away at Upton Park last week with the 3-2 loss made it extremely unlikely we would finish in the top four and City’s draw has confirmed that.
Finishing in the top four and qualifying for next year’s UEFA Champions League is something which the relative success of this season depended on after our collapse in December but Louis van Gaal has failed to make that happen.
Looking forward, we’ve now got to somehow fit this Bournemouth game into our schedule even though it is largely irrelevant and we’ve also got next weekend’s FA Cup final to think about.
Fans have been calling for van Gaal to be sacked for some time but now it is confirmed we can’t finish inside the top four, that announcement is closer than ever.
