Manchester United are set to play Bournemouth on Tuesday night after today’s abandoned game at Old Trafford.
The match had to be called off amid security fears after a suspicious package was found in the North West quadrant of the Stretford End. The package was later destroyed by the bomb squad in a controlled explosion and it has now emerged it was an elaborate hoax with an ‘extremely lifelike’ device.
As Man United play Crystal Palace on Saturday in the FA Cup final, there were questions as to when and how this fixture could be fit in this week without being a hindrance on our preparations for Wembley.

Playing on Tuesday night would only give our players four days to recover before Crystal Palace but we’ve had to deal with that before in the past, take 1999 for example when there were four days between the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
If it didn’t happen on Tuesday, then I can’t see how the game can be played before the FA Cup final as it would be too close.
That being said, the game is a dead rubber for United. Unless we beat Bournemouth by an 18 goal margin we are just playing to finish in fifth, so I’d expect Louis van Gaal to play an U21s team in order to make sure our senior squad is fresh for Wembley.
