Wayne Rooney believes the future at Manchester United is bright with the number of youngsters progressing in the first-team.
The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard and Timothy-Fosu Mensah have done incredibly well to climb through the ranks at Old Trafford, while summer signing Anthony Martial has proven his worth during his debut season in England.
Rashford has netted seven goals in 16 first-team appearances since making his debut in the Europa League against FC Midtjylland and Martial has managed to find the back of the net 17 times across all competitions.
Speaking about the clubs future, Rooney insists it’s looking great for the club even though they could fail to find a top four finish.
“It’s always exciting working with young players, people forget how young Anthony Martial is,” he said.
“The club bought him so he hasn’t come through the academy, but he’s still only a really young lad.
“Hopefully they keep improving as players and it’ll be a really bright future for Manchester United.”
United have a young and promising squad with players all set for bright futures as Rooney suggests. Memphis hasn’t been able to live up to expectations at United but I’m sure after another year of development and help from experienced players at United that he’ll be able to find his form from his days at PSV Eindhoven.
Rashford was unknown before his debut in the Europa League and an injury to Martial gave him an opportunity on the senior side, after taking it with both hands he’s gone onto become one of the country’s most highly rated young players in a matter of months.
And then you’ve got Luke Shaw who will be coming back into the team with a new signing feeling next season after a whole season out injured.
Martial has underlined his quality as one of the best youngsters in the world and it’ll be scary to see how good he can be with another few years of experience under his belt. The squad is certainly in a good place and it’s exciting for fans to see plenty of youngsters blossoming on the first-team.
