David de Gea has been named in Garth Crooks’ Premier League team of the season by Garth Crooks.
The goalkeeper has been in nothing short of spectacular form for Manchester United all year long and, like Anthony Martial, is single handedly responsible for so many points we’ve won.
On countless occasions De Gea’s saves have kept Man United in games and he absolutely deserves to be recognised as the Premier League’s best goalkeeper because he is.
The fact De Gea was named the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season for a third consecutive year might be indicative of how poor we’ve been in the last three seasons but it shouldn’t take away from just how good De Gea is.
Heading into Euro 2016, he’s now the outright favourite to start in goal for Spain and that is a major milestone in his career, something he’s been working towards for some time. It will be fantastic to see him between the sticks in France.
Will De Gea still be a United player next season? Every fan is certainly hoping so but after another year of disappointment, I don’t think any of us could begrudge him from leaving now.
