Some Manchester United fans heading to Old Trafford for Sunday’s game against Bournemouth made their feelings clear about wanting Louis van Gaal to be sacked with a banner.
Up until this stage, the grumblings among Man United fans were vocalised with boos inside Old Trafford after monotonous, dull performances but this is the first time a visual banner has been seen.
There really isn’t much to say about van Gaal anymore that hasn’t already been said? Manchester City’s 1-1 draw with Swansea means we will miss out on the top four this season unless we beat Bournemouth by an 18 goal margin. Safe to say, nobody is holding their breath.
Qualifying for the Champions League next season was always going to be something by which this season was measured and van Gaal has failed to achieve that, so there is effectively no justifying argument any more for him to stay in his job.
We’ve long suspected that no announcement or confirmation on van Gaal’s future would be made by United until we couldn’t make the top four, just like it was with David Moyes, but van Gaal has another one week grace period due to our participation in the FA Cup final. After that, I expect an official statement to be released.
