Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: We want to win silverware for the fans

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has insisted that he wants to win Saturday’s FA Cup final against Crystal Palace for the fans.

Van Gaal has overseen a disappointing campaign at Old Trafford but he has the opportunity to end it on a high note in the Cup final at Wembley.

After Man United’s final Premier League game against Bournemouth on Tuesday, van Gaal thanked fans for their “unconditional support” but he was booed by some sections of the crowd. The Dutchman claimed that supporters deserve a Cup win.

“I think the fans are more concerned about the title than I,” van Gaal said.

”We want to give it to them because they were always there and, in my opinion, unconditional because they have never let us down. A club like Manchester United needs silverware. You have read that the whole season. We need that and the players need that also.”

This season has seen low after low as far as United are concerned and it is somewhat of a surprise that United have even made it to a final at all.

United haven’t won the FA Cup since 2004 and winning it this time around could be the springboard for future success. But van Gaal will know full well that Palace will provide a stern test at Wembley. Alan Pardew’s side haven’t been in the best of form this year but anything can happen in a Cup final.
