David de Gea believes this season at Manchester United has been the best of his career.
De Gea has enjoyed a sensational campaign for Man United this term, regularly putting in match-winning performances for Louis van Gaal’s side.
The Spaniard couldn’t prevent United finishing in fifth place in the Premier League but he has the chance to lift the FA Cup if his side beat Crystal Palace in the final at Wembley on Saturday. De Gea insisted United will “fight” to win the trophy.
“It’s been the best season of my career,” De Gea said.
“I’m in great shape physically and mentally I’m very focused.
“If we win the FA Cup it will be a good season. We are all really keen to win such an important trophy for this club, our supporters and ourselves. We will fight to the end and do everything we can to win it.
“We’ve had a couple of difficult seasons so we are really determined to win the Cup. And winning it could provide us with that extra belief and motivation to hopefully go on and achieve great things.”
De Gea came close to a move to Real Madrid last summer but a deal collapsed on the final day of the Spanish transfer window due to late paperwork. He eventually signed a new deal at Old Trafford but it was unclear how he would react to the episode.
Thankfully for United, De Gea has consistently been one of United’s best performers. Some of the saves he has made have been spectacular and there is no doubt that he is currently the best in the world in his position right now. He will need to be on top form once again if United are to win the Cup.
