Manchester United’s Memphis Depay discusses FA Cup omission

Memphis Depay has reacted to being left out of Manchester United’s matchday squad for the FA Cup victory over Crystal Palace last week.

Memphis, who joined Man United from PSV Eindhoven last summer, has gone through a disappointing debut season at Old Trafford.

His underwhelming campaign was compounded by the omission from van Gaal’s matchday squad for the Wembley showpiece, a decision which reportedly angered Memphis. In a video posted on his official Twitter account, Memphis looked forlorn as he discussed the game.

“A few days ago we won the final from the FA Cup,” he said.

“Of course I was not involved in the squad but I’m still happy that we won the title from the FA Cup because it’s still a title. And now I’m just concentrated on the training camp and try to show my best for the national squad.”

Memphis has rarely shown that he can make it as a United player during his brief time at the club but he wasn’t helped by van Gaal’s negative tactics. The likes of Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin have also regressed under the Dutchman’s system.

Now that van Gaal has been sacked, Memphis will be hoping to start fresh under what looks to be the reign of Jose Mourinho.

There is clearly a talented player in Memphis and the hope is that he is able to flourish with the help of a more creative and positive style of play.
