Papers: Van Gaal’s time at Man United is over, here comes Mourinho

by Sam Peoples

In the days leading up to David Moyes being sacked by Manchester United, the stories all over the British newspapers were of his demise and imminent departure.

Now, Louis van Gaal is receiving the same treatment with Man United’s board and Ed Woodward sitting quietly in the corner watching it all unfold.

At the same time as all of this, multiple stories including this detailed analysis of van Gaal’s time by The Guardian’s Daniel Taylor hints towards a major dressing room leak, once again in the same fashion as Moyes at United. Now that the FA Cup final has passed, everything seems to be coming out of the woodwork.

As I have been saying for the last couple of months, Mourinho’s move to United this summer was inevitable and now we’re not long away from an official announcement.

One thing should be noted here though – I think van Gaal has been extremely poorly treated by United in this situation. The suggestions in the British and Dutch press are that he still doesn’t have clarification on what is going on and once again this mimics Moyes in that he found out in the media he was sacked, not via a phone call from Woodward. He clearly hasn’t learned from his mistakes.
