Blackburn have made an official approach to Manchester United asking for permission to speak to the club’s U21s manager Warren Joyce about the vacant managerial position at Ewood Park, according to the Telegraph.
Blackburn are looking for a new manager after Paul Lambert stepped down at the end of the season having overseen a 15th-placed finish in the Championship.
Joyce has developed a good reputation in the game in recent years after guiding Man United to the U21 Premier League title this season for the third time in four years.
United would be reluctant to let Joyce go as he is highly regarded at Old Trafford but they also recognise the opportunity presented to him.
Joyce has had to deal with the loss of several players such as Tom Thorpe in recent years but he has consistently brought success to United’s U21 side, and all with an exciting style of play.
It would be a shame to lose Joyce but it would be hard to begrudge him a move to the Championship and the exposure it would bring.
