After a disappointing first season at Man United, Memphis will feel he has it all prove next year under whoever replaces Louis van Gaal and Mourinho is expected to be unveiled within the next 48 hours.
A player like Memphis has the potential to thrive under Mourinho and speaking to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf about the Portuguese manager, he said: “If the arrival of Mourinho becomes official, I’ll ask Wesley Sneijder what kind of man he is,” Depay said. “That’s interesting. It all sounds so, but it is not yet official.”
When it was mentioned to Memphis that Sneijder once said he was the best manager he’d ever played under, Memphis added: “That’s a nice prospect.”
It certainly is a nice prospect Memphis and that’s putting it lightly. Mourinho has been one of the best managers in the world for some time and to have him come in and help United recover and rebuild is extremely exciting.
As for Memphis, I remember watching him a lot with PSV Eindhoven before he moved and he’s such a good player when he has got confidence. I’m convinced he could become a wonderful player under Mourinho, least not because he’ll hopefully have Luke Shaw alongside him all year as well.
This season might have been one to forget for Memphis but next year under Mourinho could be when he really kick starts his United career and shows the sort of promise which earned him a move to Old Trafford in the first place.
