Thierry Henry believes that Anthony Martial has been a “revelation” for Manchester United this season.
Martial joined Man United from Monaco last summer as a relatively unknown quantity but he has blown all expectations of him out of the water over the course of the campaign.
The Frenchman scored 17 goals in all competitions for United this season and also chipped in with five assists. Arsenal legend Henry was full of praise for his compatriot.
“He had a good season with Monaco the year before, but people were questioning whether he was going to be good or not at Manchester United. He has showed everyone he can be that guy.”
United’s troubles up top were well known under Louis van Gaal, which makes Martial’s goals and assists return all the more remarkable.
Van Gaal’s tenure at United has to go down as a failure following his sacking by the club this week but he deserves huge credit for recognising Martial’s talent and placing faith in him.
It will be interesting to see how Martial responds to the management of Mourinho, who is widely expected to be named as van Gaal’s successor. But first of all, the 20-year-old will be focused on impressing for France at the European Championships this summer.
