Ronaldo: I hope Mourinho can help Man United back to the top

Cristiano Ronaldo will be delighted to see Jose Mourinho become Manchester United manager but ruled out the possibility of moving back to Manchester in order to work underneath him again.

Mourinho’s box office appointment will put Man United back on the map this summer and links with his ex-Real Madrid players have already begun including James Rodriguez.

However, as happy as Ronaldo is that Mourinho will be replacing Louis van Gaal, he’s got no intention of re-joining United this summer.

Speaking about the appointment, he said: “He’s already signed hasn’t he? I think it’s good.

“If it’s something United wanted I think it’s good – I hope Manchester United get back to what they were because it’s an impressive club but in the last years they lacked an identity a bit.

“And it hurts me seeing United like that because it’s a club I carry in my heart. I wish Mourinho can restore them back to the top.”

When questioned on whether he’d want to work under Mourinho at United, he added: “Right now yes I am happy and I want to stay at this club,” he said. “I don’t see any other club that is better than Real Madrid. If you weigh things up there is no better club.

“So all other clubs can forget about me because Real Madrid is the best.”

Hopefully this will kill the Ronaldo rumours before they have gathered any pace this summer because there have been perennial reports linking him with a move back to United pretty much ever since he left to join Real Madrid in 2009.

As much as I’d love to see Ronaldo back in a United shirt, it’s clear it isn’t going to happen, at least not at this point in his career and Mourinho’s arrival doesn’t change that all.

Looking ahead, Mourinho will have his eye on four signings and one of those will be a right-winger. Antoine Griezmann is somebody United fans would love to have but we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the market. One thing seems certain though – Ronaldo isn’t coming home, for the time being at least.
