Jose Mourinho: To become Man United manager is a special honour

by Sam Peoples

Jose Mourinho is delighted to have become Manchester United manager and is looking forward to working at Old Trafford.

After months of speculation and days of negotiation due to complications over his image rights and sponsors, Man United officially announced Mourinho as our new manager on Friday morning.

Speaking in his first statement as United manager, Mourinho immediately pointed towards United’s support and how the club has always had a romantic affinity with him.

He said: “To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.

“I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years.”

You don’t need me to remind me you of what’s happened at United over the last three years and there are certain fans who would argue this is an appointment which is three years later, but we’re not looking at the past – we’re looking forward to what’s going to happen underneath Jose.

The last two years under Louis van Gaal have been, on the whole, extremely dull but if there is one thing Mourinho’s United wont be it is dull. We’ll have fireworks right from the off and who knows, if everything clicks together as it has for him at other clubs in his first season, we might be celebrating at the end of it as well.

Welcome Jose.
