Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has become the first player to welcome Jose Mourinho to the club.
The 15-year-old midfielder might not even be old enough to have a profile under Man United’s U18s squad on the official website but he’s been making a name for himself throughout his young career to date, having always played with the age groups above him.

I suppose it might be considered somewhat ironic by some people that a youth player is the first player to welcome Mourinho because it’s one of the major concerns around Jose and his style of management.
The emergence of Marcus Rashford, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, Guillermo Varela and a few others last year reminded United fans of the importance to youth at the club and how players really can’t prove themselves without an opportunity.
Will players like Gomes, Callum Gribbin, Axel Tuanzebe and RoShaun Williams get a chance to progress through into the first-team? Will players like Fosu-Mensah and Borthwick-Jackson be allowed to build on their excellent breakthrough seasons? It’s an unknown entity at the moment and I’ll be perfectly honest in saying it is my only major concern with Mourinho.
But, naively, I also firmly believe if there is one club who Mourinho will adapt for that it is United. Whether I’m proved right remains to be seen.
