Chelsea manager Thibaut Courtois has backed former manager Jose Mourinho to succeed at Manchester United.
Courtois won the Premier League with Mourinho at Chelsea during the 2014/15 season but the Portuguese was sacked by the London club last year following a disastrous title defence.
Mourinho has now been appointed as manager of Man United and Courtois backed his former boss to turn things around at Old Trafford.
“[Mourinho is] a very good manager,” Courtois said.
“Obviously this season it was not our year but I’m confident he’s a top manager and Manchester United will be difficult to beat next year.”
Mourinho’s reputation took a hit due to the awful period at Chelsea last year, which was also compounded due to his off-field antics.
But one season does not make a bad manager and Mourinho had previously enjoyed widespread success across Europe with the likes of Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Porto.
United have wallowed in mediocrity for too long and Mourinho should be the man to lead them back to success. With his appointment confirmed, Mourinho will now be tasked with revitalising a squad that has looked devoid of any creativity at points this term. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one of a number of names linked with moves to the club.
