Man United may add more games to pre-season schedule – report

by Tanveer Arayan

Manchester United are exploring the possibility of adding more games to their pre-season schedule following the appointment of Jose Mourinho as manager, according to the Telegraph’s James Ducker.

Man United are pencilled in to travel to China this summer for a pre-season tour and, while they are not looking to extend the length of time they are there, the club may add an extra game in Asia or elsewhere after their involvement in the International Champions Cup in Shanghai or Beijing.

Mourinho will first take charge of United against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22 before then facing Manchester City in Beijing three days later. Another game could be added after City if the logistics make sense.

Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney’s representatives are in talks with the club to finalise a date for his testimonial. August 3 has been slated but it is yet to be confirmed.

Louis van Gaal had been heavily involved in the planning behind the tour of China before his sacking and it is unclear whether Mourinho is happy with the arrangements. Whatever happens, excitement and optimism will be high as Mourinho begins his task of taking United back to the top.
