Manchester United’s Morgan Schneiderlin has vowed to come back stronger at Old Trafford next season following a disappointing debut campaign at the club.
Schneiderlin was signed from Southampton by Louis van Gaal last summer but the midfielder struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at Man United.
His form meant he was only included on the stand-by list for France ahead of the European Championships this summer and Schneiderlin was downbeat as he sent a message to fans to signal the end of his campaign.
Writing on his official Instagram page, he said: ”After a few days training with the French national team I hope they will win the Euros. It’s time for me to leave the camp and to be back home with my family and friends.
“Despite a few disappointments, I learned a lot from this season, and I promise that I will come back stronger and [more] determined [than] ever! #whatdoesntkillyoumakesyoustronger.”
Schneiderlin was considered to be one of the best midfielders in the Premier League prior to his arrival at United but he seemed to suffer as a result of van Gaal’s negative tactics. The likes of Ander Herrera and Memphis Depay also regressed under the Dutchman’s reign.
The hope is that Schneiderlin is afforded a new lease of life under Jose Mourinho, who was appointed as United’s new boss last week.
Schneiderlin, on the face of it, is exactly the sort of player Mourinho likes: intelligent, physical and an eye for a pass.
