Paddy Crerand appears to confirm new Michael Carrick contract

Paddy Crerand has appeared to let slip that Michael Carrick has signed a new one-year contract extension at Manchester United.

Carrick is out of contract at Man United in the summer and he looked to be departing Old Trafford following a ten-year spell at the club.

But Crerand appeared to confirm that he had signed a new deal on MUTV on Monday night, although there has been nothing official from United so far.

He said: “Something that happened today that nobody has mentioned, and I’m delighted that he has signed another contract: Michael Carrick. He’s signed a contract for another year.”

“There was a situation where it looked as if his contract was up at the end of this year and that was it, but from what I’m gathering he’s there for another year.”

Crerand, who made over 300 appearances for United during his playing days, has connections within the club but his comments may just have been a misunderstanding.

The hope is that Carrick is afforded the opportunity to stay with United for another season as he has been a fantastic player for the side over the years. And you’d think that he would be the type of player that new boss Jose Mourinho would like.

Marcus Rashford and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson had their new deals confirmed by the club recently and it may be a matter of time until Carrick is added to the list.
