Barcelona keen on Manchester United’s Daley Blind – report

by Tanveer Arayan

Barcelona are interested in a move for Manchester United’s Daley Blind this summer, according to SPORT.

Reports emerged this week that new Man United boss Jose Mourinho is happy to sell Blind, along with Juan Mata.

Mourinho is not said to be keen on Blind playing as a central defender as he has often preferred fast, tall and strong centre-backs over the course of his managerial career.

Barcelona are looking to capitalise on the uncertainty as they like Blind’s ability to play in both a central position and on the left side of defence.

Blind performed admirably at centre-back alongside Chris Smalling during the 2015/16 campaign under Louis van Gaal but it was clear that he is not a natural defender. More often than not, David de Gea bailed Blind out when the latter made a big mistake.

You would think that Blind’s versatility would make him a useful player to have in the squad but, if Mourinho can sign a direct replacement in the summer, the Dutchman may find that his time at Old Trafford is coming to an end.
