Jose Mourinho offers Michael Carrick contract extension at Man United – report

Michael Carrick has been offered a one-year contract extension at Manchester United by new boss Jose Mourinho, according to the Guardian.

Carrick is out of contract at Man United this summer and it looked like he was ready to leave the club after ten years.

The 34-year-old entered the field of play with his children prior to United’s last home game of the season against Bournemouth earlier this month and he shared the lifting of the FA Cup with Wayne Rooney after the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace at Wembley.

They looked to be symbolic gestures ahead of an exit but Carrick has now been offered a new deal by Mourinho having been assured he is in the manager’s plans next season. However, Carrick is said to be undecided whether to accept.

Carrick has been a fantastic and loyal servant to United and it would have been a shame to see him exit following one of the team’s most disappointing seasons in recent memory.

Hopefully the veteran is afforded a new role within the team under Mourinho, although he may need to pick and choose his moments to play.
