Dwight Yorke believes Anthony Martial will only get better and better for years to come at Manchester United.
The Frenchman was Man United’s Player of the Month for May, where he managed to take his overall tally for the campaign to 17 with a clinical double at West Ham and a cool finish against league champions Leicester City.
He’s had a spectacular debut season at Old Trafford and has been one of the few bright sparks in a disappointing campaign under Louis van Gaal.
Speaking about his future at the club, Yorke insists Martial will become a big player for both club and country.
“There is no doubt he will be a big player for both club and country,” he said.
“He came into this country relatively unknown and people were raising their eyebrows thinking ‘Who is this guy?’
“But he certainly made an impact at Manchester United and been one of the highlights of their season.
“He’s only 20 so still at that junior stage of his career and he’s just going to get better and better.”
When you watch Martial in action it’s hard to believe it’s his first year in England, he’s been brilliant all season and almost gave United the chance of qualifying for the Champions League. His presence on the pitch and his calm finishing has made him a fan favourite and if he can be this good in his first year I can’t wait to see what he can do with a few more years under his belt.
There was plenty of pressure on his shoulders when he arrived from Monaco as a relatively unknown talent last season but he’s proven he was absolutely worth every penny as he was by far and away United’s most dangerous forward.
Van Gaal put his faith in the youngster and took the risk of paying his huge price tag but it’ll be interesting to see how he’ll perform under Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford.
