Manchester United have agreed an initial fee in the region of €35m for Villareal defender Eric Bailly, according to Duncan Castles.
The 22-year-old defender has become an established player for Villareal who finished fourth in the 2015/16 La Liga and Jose Mourinho is expected to make him one of his major signings this summer if reports are correct.
For those who aren’t familiar with Castles, he is widely considered the mouthpiece for Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes. Over the years, his stories have almost felt ghost-written by Mendes and he’s had a particularly harsh line on anything to do with United, so you get the feeling this news wouldn’t be reported unless it was happening.
With Euro 2016 starting on Friday, this could prove to be an incredibly busy week for United with a potential deal for Zlatan Ibrahimovic also on the cards.
After a few years of slow activity in the transfer window, United look to be making major strides under Mourinho to finalise deals as soon as possible which is a refreshing change towards how we used to work under Sir Alex Ferguson.
Bailly isn’t a player who I’ve watched a lot of this season but I did see his performance against Liverpool in their 1-0 win and he did look superb. Could we potentially see a partnership of him alongside Chris Smalling at Old Trafford next season?
