Manchester United have made a bid of £35.2million to sign Valencia’s Andre Gomes, according to reports in Italy.
The 22-year-old is considered to be one of the brightest young talents in Europe having featured 34 times for Valencia in all competitions this season and has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.
He is represented by super agent Jorge Mendes who also manages new boss Jose Mourinho and both camps are reportedly confident a deal can be reached between the clubs. Mendes’ relationship with United runs deep having also overseen deals for Marcos Rojo, Radamel Falcao, Nani and Cristiano Ronaldo to name but a few.
Mourinho allegedly stepped up his interest in Gomes on Thursday night as he scouted him during England’s 1-0 win over Portugal at Wembley.
Napoli and Juventus are both said to be already pushing for Gomes so there would be difficult competition to land his signature. United share a close relationship with Mendes after the introduction of Anthony Martial, Cristiano Ronaldo and Radamel Falcao, so if they wanted Gomes at Old Trafford Mendes could get the deal done.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation. Mourinho had claimed he will not sign any players from Portugal for United this summer but it looks like he could have been persuaded.
