Oliveira is said to be one of the first names that Mourinho ‘put on the table’ when he arrived at Man United last month.
The 63-year-old specialises in finding talent in Brazil having lived in the country for the past 25 years. Oliveira has helped Benfica sign the likes of Luisao, David Luiz, Ramires and Talisca in the past.
United have under-performed in the transfer market for too long and it is good that Mourinho has recognised that player recruitment is an area which needs strengthening. As well as Oliveira, Mourinho is said to have brought in Ricardo Formosinho as his senior technical scout.
There is plenty of cash available to give to Mourinho at United and the club haven’t been too afraid to spend it in the past but players such as Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao have been resounding failures in recent years.
If Mourinho is to mount a Premier League title challenge next term, his signings will need to make a big impact and Oliveira may help turn the tide in United’s favour.
