Daley Blind: I’m very excited to work Jose Mourinho

Daley Blind is excited about the prospect of getting to work under Jose Mourinho and will do his best to impress the new Manchester United manager.

The Dutch midfielder has been at United for two years now, arriving during the first summer of Louis van Gaal‘s reign, and will need to impress if he is to break into Mourinho’s side with plenty of competition around the middle of the field amidst more speculation about incoming players.

While Blind says he does not know him personally, he is aware of Mourinho’s achievements and has played against him. “I’ve met Jose several times but don’t know him personally,” Blind said.

“For example, I played for Ajax against Real Madrid when he was the coach of Madrid, so I saw him then.

“I think he’s a coach who’s achieved a lot and I’m very excited to work with someone like him. I’m going do my best and work very hard.”

Blind has struggled through two difficult years at United with his versatility working against him for much of that time. He can play as a left-back, a central midfielder and a centre-back and was often played out of position under Louis van Gaal. Combined with United’s injury record for the last two seasons, Blind was being asked to fill in at several positions.

Mourinho will most likely sell a few players and one player who was mentioned as a potential departure was Blind. Michael Carrick signed a new one year deal and with both Bastian Schweinstieger and Morgan Schneiderlin also available, it wasb, and still is, seen as a possibility.

Mourinho tends to only rotate when absolutely necessary and this could result in a few players being excluded from his plans. The one thing that Blind offers is versatility – the story of his career – and he has a good football brain, which might encourage Mourinho. He does lack speed, however, and that is something frightens Mourinho.

United have been linked with Andre Gomes, a Portuguese midfielder plying his trade with Valencia in La Liga and if one or two of the players United are linked with come in, player such as Blind could be sold.
