Manchester United are the favourites to sign Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba after Manchester City pulled out of the race to secure the Frenchman’s signature, according to The Independent and The Guardian.
Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of Pogba having tried to sign him at Chelsea in the past and he would now like to bring him to Old Trafford as Man United aim for the Premier League title next term.
Pogba is valued at £78m and he is understood to prefer a move to La Liga but United still believe that they can lure him to the club.
City have pulled out of the race due to the transfer fee and Pogba’s £200,000-a-week wage demands and Pep Guardiola is keen on pursuing other targets instead.
Pogba left United four years ago as Sir Alex Ferguson didn’t want to offer him a lucrative new deal.
He has since gone on to become one of the finest midfielders in the world and, if there is a chance Pogba could return to United, the club should do all they can to sign him despite the hefty fees involved. Pogba is a world-class talent and his arrival would be a big boost for everyone associated with the club.
