The agent of Brazilian striker Leandrinho has revealed Manchester United are one of a number of clubs who are interested in signing him.
The 17-year-old striker, who plays for Ponte Preta in Brazil, is on the radar of United, Manchester City, Napoli and Real Madrid.
Having secured 16-year-old Tahith Chong as an academy signing from Feyenoord already this summer, interest in Leandrinho may well see us bring him in as well.
Leandrinho, 17, is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Brazil and is understood to have visited Napoli’s training complex this week.
And, according to his representative, a number of European clubs are interested in the highly-rated teen – including teams from La Liga and the Premier League.
“I’m doing everything possible to bring the player to Napoli, but lot of clubs are chasing him,” his agent told Radio CRC.
“He has never been to Castelvolturno to get a trial with the club, his uncle went to there, but he also went to Barcelona and Manchester before.
“Both Manchester clubs want to sign him and Real Madrid had sounded out on his availability in the past.
“He is only 17 but he has the personality of a great footballer. I am trying to bring him to Naples. I want to convince his family. English clubs offer lot of money, but Napoli have a project.
“He can’t sign any contract before January 2017, when he’ll turn 18. He’s a pure striker. He has scored eight goals in nine games this season.”
With Marcus Rashford breaking out of United’s U18s early, we do have a lack of depth in the striking department at that level and a new signing is expected this summer.
Could that be Leandrinho? His agent is certainly indicating there is interest but more often than not that’s a ploy to force another club to push through their offer and this could well be another example of that.
Regardless of whether Leandrinho arrives, I do think we will sign a new U18s striker this year to bolster our options in the academy.
