Manchester United fans have revealed their delight after Michael Carrick committed his future to the club by signing a one-year contract extension on Thursday.
Carrick will be at Man United until at least the summer of 2017 after he put pen to paper on the deal.
The 34-year-old had previously been linked with moves to the likes of LA Galaxy and Everton but supporters were delighted to hear that United had tied him down:

Glad to see Carrick given another year. Comfortably one of the most underrated players we've ever had

Carrick an important box ticked by Mourinho. Well respected character within the squad.

Carrick will definitely be a part-time player next season but should help the young lads grow and provide experience. Smart move.

Big signing by @ManUtd I think. Carrick hugely important in dressing room. Sets an example for younger ones (in addition to all the medals).

Carrick isn’t getting any younger and new boss Jose Mourinho will certainly need to pick and choose his moments to play the midfielder next season.
But Carrick showed during the 2015/16 campaign that he still has a lot to offer the side. Despite the acquisitions of Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger last summer, Carrick was arguably United’s most consistent midfielder.
His presence will also be needed in the dressing room as Mourinho looks to negotiate a settling in period at Old Trafford. It was important to tie him down and the focus now will move onto more new arrivals after Eric Bailly joined United this week.
