Paddy McNair: Jose Mourinho has been texting Manchester United players at Euro 2016

Manchester United’s Paddy McNair has revealed that Jose Mourinho has been texting his players good luck ahead of the European Championships.

Mourinho was confirmed as Louis van Gaal’s successor at Man United last month following months of speculation over the Portuguese.

The 53-year-old has wasted no time in securing his first signing – Eric Bailly made the switch to Old Trafford from Villarreal this week – and it also appears that he has been making an effort to win over his new players ahead of the coming campaign.

“He sent me a text message wishing me good luck for the tournament – that was nice of him,” McNair said.

“I’m sure he’ll be watching and I’ll be trying my best and hopefully he likes what he sees.”

McNair is set to be part of the Northern Ireland side that takes on Poland on Sunday in their opening group fixture of the competition.

The youngster has been playing in midfield for Northern Ireland recently but it remains to be seen how he will be deployed by manager Michael O’Neill against Poland.

As for Mourinho, it is good to hear that he is making an effort to get the players on his side. They seemed devoid of confidence and inspiration under van Gaal during the 2015/16 season and Mourinho should inject some life back into the squad.
