Roy Keane believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic could be Manchester United’s new Eric Cantona and would be a perfect fit at Old Trafford.
Having played with Cantona at Man United, the Irishman can see the similarities between his old teammate and the Ibrahimovic, who is said to be re-united with Jose Mourinho next season.
The Republic of Ireland are preparing to face Sweden in their first group game at the European Championships on Monday night and his attention was drawn to Ibrahimovic’s move to Man United.
Speaking about his future, Keane thinks he would be a good fit under Mourinho and is reminded of Cantona when he watches him in action.
“Of course he is a good fit for United, he’s a good player,” he said.
“They’re big characters, clearly, whatever you say about Cantona, he was a popular lad, and I get the impression Zlatan is the same.
“Whatever about his playing career, you hear from his team-mates and he seems to be a bit of a character, and you can see that in the way he plays.
“It’s good to see that, because there’s a lack of characters out there, and he certainly is that. On top of all that, he’s a very, very good player.”
Ibrahimovic’s is a world-class talent and Man United certainly lack a player with his experience up front. He’s scored 51 goals in 50 games and would definitely help the club improve on their record-low goal scoring campaign of 46 goals in the Premier League.
Cantona dragged Man United across the Premier League title in 1993 and there’s no doubt with Zlatan’s quality he’ll have the same impact at Old Trafford.
He’s one of the best goal scorers in the world and I would happily take his services at Old Trafford. Ibrahimovic is a huge character and would be very sucessful if he chose to play under Mourinho one more time after a successful spell together at Inter Milan.
