Ander Herrera‘s pre-season training has already got underway back in his home country Spain at former club Real Zaragoza.
The 26-year-old spent his youth career at Zaragoza and played for their first team before being signed by Athletic Bilbao back in 2011 and now he’s getting some early fitness work in back where he grew up as a boy.
Herrera was joined in training by Alberto Zapater, who was a former team-mate at Zaragoza and 19-year-old Jesus Vallejo.
It’s great to see Herrera’s got his head in the right place because something like this is exactly what he needs. Jose Mourinho is a fresh start for Herrera at United and he’s the perfect type of central midfielder who the Portuguese manager loves at his clubs – take Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea for example. He has a big opportunity to fulfil that role at man United next year.
Luke Shaw did a similar thing last summer when he took it upon himself to put in some extra fitness work and it paid off in dividends as he headed into the pre-season tour in great shape. Hopefully Herrera can do the same thing this year.
I’m a big fan of Herrera. What’s not to like about him as a person? Unfortunately for him his performances really tailed off last year but he can now turn a leaf and getting as fit as possible ahead of our China tour is an excellent way for him to kick it off.
