Chris Smalling believes Roy Hodgson’s England side have the best selection of attacking players at Euro 2016 this summer.
Hodgson surprised many as he named a very attacking 23-man squad for the summer tournament in France which allowed him to call upon Jamie Vardy, Danie Sturridge and Marcus Rashford from the bench against Wales on Thursday for their memorable 2-1 comeback.
Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana went off for them with all-time top scorer Wayne Rooney featuring in the midfield once again and Smalling believes it will give England the advantage over their rivals in the tournement.
“I think England have got distinguished qualities,” he said.
“I think no other team can say that they’re blessed with that many attacking talents to bring on and change games.
“I think they’re going to be crucial as to how far we can get in this tournament.”
The England squad is very young but it doesn’t look like it has negatively impacted their performances with Marcus Rashford making a solid appearance after replacing Adam Lallana in the 73 minute.
Smalling managed to score the winning goal earlier in the month as England defeated Portugal at Wembley and has shown his potential at France as one of England’s strongest defenders.
He has lost his form since the start of the season at Old Trafford and will be looking to hit the ground running under new boss Jose Mourinho as he’ll be teaming up with new signing Eric Bailly in the centre of defence.
