Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s agent has said it would be a sin to end Manchester United talks and is hopeful of orchestrating a move to Old Trafford.
Ever since news was confirmed by Borussia Dortmund last week that Mkhitaryan wouldn’t be renewing his contract past 2017 with the German club, his agent Mino Raiola has been relentlessly linking him with Man United.
Raiola has already gone on record to say United want Mkhitaryan and now says talks are being held in ‘a good atmosphere’ aiming towards bringing the Armenian to Manchester.
“It would be a sin to stop talking,” Raiola said.
“I am a positive guy. If I wasn’t confident of reaching some kind of conclusion, I wouldn’t try.”
He added: “I am very proud Manchester United want him and the talks are being held in a good atmosphere, but at the moment Dortmund are still saying no.”
It’s somewhat unusual to see an agent pushing for a move so openly but rarely does Raiola operate within the realms of normalcy. He has always taken a very public and brash approach to negotiations, which can rub people up the wrong way, but he’s built a career on that style of management as an agent.
Dortmund really have no intention to sell Mkhitaryan this summer but Raiola clearly isn’t going to sit in the background quietly any time soon. I suppose we’ll get to see how much power an agent and a player can hold over a club when it comes to Henrikh’s future.
As far as I’m concerned, Mkhitaryan looks like the archetypal right sided player who our attack could really do with because of how slow Juan Mata is when used in that role. We need a new right winger and while Dortmund don’t want Henrikh to leave, his agent Raiola clearly has other ideas.
