RB Leipzig have pulled out of a move for rumoured Manchester United target Breel Embolo, according to the Bundesliga side’s sporting director Ralf Rangnick.
Reports had suggested that newly-promoted Leipzig had agreed a deal for Embolo, said to be worth something in the region of €20m, with bonuses.
The potential deal came as a surprise as Embolo was reportedly on the radar of clubs such as Juventus and Barcelona. But now Man United have reportedly declared their interest and the club are said to be close to agreeing a big-money transfer with higher wages for the player. Rangnick revealed that Leipzig have pulled out of negotiations, which should open the door for United.
“We’ve informed the agent of Embolo and FC Basel that we are no longer interested in his transfer,” he said.
It’s an interesting development and it appears as if the path is now clear for United to secure Embolo’s signature.
The forward is currently competing with Switzerland at Euro 2016. Embolo hasn’t quite lit up the competition so far, but United would have no doubt done their homework on the player.
It should be an interesting summer in terms of incomings and outgoings at United, with other youngsters such as Adam Ounas linked with moves to Old Trafford.
